Enhancement Projects
Projects addressing safe bicycle and pedestrian facilities, scenic routes, beautification and other investments which provide alternative transportation corridors, are referred to as “Enhancement Projects”. They also provide increased opportunities for recreation, accessibility and safety beyond traditional highway programs. When FDOT announces the availability of “Enhancement” funds, the TPO solicits local jurisdictions throughout Brevard County to submit project applications.
The TPO establishes priorities for the Enhancement projects based on recommendations from the Bicycle/Pedestrian and Trails Advisory Committee (BPTAC). The BPTAC last considered Enhancement applications in April 2008 and made recommendations that were adopted by the TPO Board on May 8, 2008. The prioritized projects were submitted to FDOT for Federal Transportation Enhancement funding consideration. It should be noted that when the Stimulus Funds became available, funding was secured for the North Merritt Island Pioneer Trail, one of the four Brevard County Showcase Trails (number one priority).
