March 2006 - The MPO is planning to perform an update to the Master Plan that was adopted in 2001 beginning later this year. Please bookmark this page and check back often for updates, including meeting announcements and draft documents for review and comment. The following documents and maps are available for download on the Downloads page and Archives page: Executive Summary - May 2001 July 1999 - The MPO solicited consultant services to develop a Greenways and Trails Master Plan. The goal of the Master Plan development was to create a comprehensive, conceptual system-level proposal illustrating
and defining the development and improvement of new and existing greenways and trails and April 2000 - Four public workshops were held to identify locations where trail opportunities exist. Attendees formed small groups and were given maps of the County and asked to "sketch in" trails and identify the type of facility (sidewalk, paved/unpaved trail, greenway, blueway, etc.) that they envisioned. July 2000 - Two public workshops were held to focus on specific trails indentified in April. Attendees were asked to work together to recommend desired design details, such as potential user groups, surface materials, trailhead locations, and trail amenities. May 2001 - The MPO adopted the Brevard County Greenways and Trails Master Plan. The Plan incorporates public comments and ideas collected during the Master Plan development from 1999 to 2001, and identifies opportunities for a trail system that serves transportation, recreation and conservation needs. The MPO directed staff to evaluate and formalize an implementation plan and provide detailed recommendations for how to proceed with establishing a Greenways and Trails Program and implementing projects. February 2002 - The MPO's Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee(BPAC) agreed to include Greenways and Trails as part of their role. The committee, now called the Bicycle/Pedestrian and Trails Committee (BPTAC) increased its membership to include greenways and trails representatives. September 2003 - Showcase Projects were identified that will serve as the "backbone" for an integrated county and regional greenways and trails system.
