Long Range Transportation Plan Open House Events
The TPO will host open house events to discuss the 2035 Long-Range Transportation Plan and major potential future transportation projects in Brevard.
The most challenging part of developing a LRTP is reducing the list of needed projects to fit within the forecasted revenue. This involves evaluating projects against the goals and objectives, as well as considering the priorities expressed by the public.
The TPO is committed to engaging as many residents and business interests as possible in its transportation planning process. The TPO’s goal is to assure that plans are reflective of and responsible to the needs of the communities that they serve.
If you can not make it to one of the following Open House Events please take the time to fill out this short LRTP Survey.

Project Priorities
The 2010 Project Priorities are currently being developed. Using the State of the System list of ranked roadway segments as technical guidance, the TPO annually submits to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) a prioritized list of projects for implementation in Brevard County. These priorities are used by FDOT to program State and Federal transportation funds. Projects on the Priority List come from three primary sources: local government requests, citizens and the State of the System Report. The development of a Priority List is the first step in the process of implementing transportation improvement projects. The Growth Management Subcommittee will meet on June 16th to review candidate projects and assign draft priority rankings. This draft list will be presented at a public meeting later this summer and brought to the TPO Board for consideration in September. The approved list will then be transmitted to FDOT for use in the development of the Department’s Tentative 5-year Work Program.
Amtrak Test Run on FEC
On Saturday May 1, 2010, the State of Florida celebrated a historic event - the running of a Amtrak passenger train on the FEC corridor from Miami to Jacksonville. Passenger service was cancelled in 1968, three years before Amtrak was formed, but the idea of returning passenger service has remained a strong goal on the East Coast for decades and may soon become a reality.
